Saturday I’m in Love

Yet another day of slight mayhem (with a bit of bicycle grease thrown in for good measure). I spent the afternoon cursing mildly as I methodically assembled my new car / RV / camel / quarterhorse (otherwise known as a travel bicycle), learning the finer points of V-brakes and seat stems.

Sporting a fire-engine red paint job and a saucy attitude, my new steed is a folding bike from the fabulous folks at Bike Friday. She’s got small wheels (if I was smarter I’d remember the diameter, but I’m not so good with numbers), so pedalling around the block felt odd, but remarkably great. Is “responsive” is the right term to use? Anyway. I’m in love.

Now, I’m entering the grunt phase of preparation. Every minute is a rollercoaster, as I fret about a million “what if” scenarios and panic from morning to night. I feel like I’m starting to flat out run from one task to another, trying to remember all the little things I need to do while trying to keep my panic under control.

I guess I now have an excuse for my hair turning grey…
