Looney Moon

Tonight I experienced one of those mini-miracles that makes life so fabulous…my neighbours knocked on my door at 7:30 p.m. to tell me that the lunar eclipse was visible from our backyard.

The heavy cloud cover had broken and we were able to watch the eclipse for 15 minutes from the deck, passing around binoculars and shivering in our slippers. It was beautiful - smoky orange with a silver edge.

My adopted neice, Sadie, sung a song to “Mr. Moon” really loudly, and we called all our neighbours so they could see it. I joked that I felt like Luke Skywalker on Tatooine (although technically he had two moons, plus I couldn’t remember any good lines from the movie to add to the moment). Then we talked about the meteor that flew over Oregon last night, except Sadie thought we said “meat-eater”, so then we talked about dinosaurs for a while.

Ah, good times in the city.
